From Kisumu to Kitui, AHRTA empowers adolescents to lead dialogues, host radio shows, conduct community surveys, and design local interventions. These grassroots movements are backed by technical training and small grants to amplify youth voice and action.
Training Cultural and Faith Leaders
Change requires the support of traditional gatekeepers. AHRTA works with elders, pastors, imams, and community elders to address norms around FGM, gender roles, and reproductive rights. We facilitate cultural reflection forums and interfaith round tables.
Community Dialogues
Our signature “Tusemezane” forums bring adolescents, caregivers, teachers, chiefs, and health workers together to share perspectives and co-create solutions. These dialogues have led to new local ordinances banning FGM ceremonies and have facilitated the reintegration of defiled girls into schools.
Safe Spaces for Expression and Healing
Every adolescent deserves a place to feel safe, heard, and valued. AHRTA has established 19 youth centers that provide mental health support, sexual health services, legal help, career counseling, and creative outlets such as dance, poetry, and digital storytelling.
